Trap and Fame’s Favored FewCo – Chairmen: Peter Morgavio & Dan WelchAs of this report (week eight of the sixteen-week program) Dan Welch seems to be the “Top Gun” in the first and hopefully annual Roger Lofberg Memorial Winter Trap Shoot. However Ray Ertel, Jim Gillespie, Bob Preston, Peter Morgavio and Jack Martin may within a short period of time, be able to change both Dan’s luck and momentum! Well, maybe at least perhaps slow him down!
As for the “Expert” Division there seems to be a battle royal forming between thirteen year old Adam Preston and senior club members Randy Foy, Chet Wright and Don Funkhauser. As for the “Sharpshooters Division,” Ken Joudrey, Gill Wilson, Bob Fratus and Don Watkins are also shooting up a storm. In the “Women’s Division,” trap newcomer Cheryl Ellis is also turning up the pressure with her 12 Gauge!
The bottom line is folks, it ain’t over till it’s over! Trophies will be awarded to all participants completing the required minimum of twelve weeks of the contest. An awards night and “potluck style” banquet will be held for all league participants at the conclusion of this contest. It should be noted that at this time we have over seventeen participants signed up for this event.
All members are reminded that Trap is shooting Saturday Mornings at 10 AM, Sunday Mornings at 9am and Friday afternoons from 12pm until 2pm. The cost to shoot is a mere $3.00 dollars per round of 25 clay targets. Non members will pay just a dollar more! Our trap range is open to all whether you are a novice, a rookie, an expert or an ATA superstar. Everyone is welcome so come on down and join us for some shooting fun!

Toys For Tots Charity and Club Christmas Party: If you were not fortunate enough to attend the club Christmas Party then you surely missed a good time. Saturday Evening, December 15th at 6pm was the time frame for this highly anticipated event. At 6pm the doors of the decorated clubhouse opened and appetizers were available for all. Special thanks go to BOD member Mel Peck and his wife who donated a crock pot of “Sweet & Sour Moose Tips.” Along with the moose tips and other treats on this table were Swedish style meatballs as well as “Ukrainian Elk Salami.” Dinner was served at 7pm. After an Italian green salad was served a full roast beef dinner with cheesy potatoes and vegetable was served. Individual slices of cheesecake with a chocolate syrup type “grenache” were served as dessert.
As usual, our club was host to our local Toys for Tots Marine representatives. Jake O’Rourke and Bob Spellman made their annual appearance and picked up a ton of toys. Pictured inset are Jack Martin, Jim Gillespie, Jake O’Rourke, Bruce Gutowski, Bob Spellman and Bob Preston. Please be advised that this is the fourth year our club has partnered with the Toys For Tots charity and as always the members of this club have always come forward and donated very generously to this worthwhile cause.
(A big thank you goes out to all Cape Cod Fish & Game Association members and their families who donated to the Toys For Tots organization. Each year, the toys that are collected here and elsewhere across our area are made available to underprivileged children here on Cape Cod. Your generous contribution will no doubt helped make a child’s Christmas a lot happier. Thank you again for all your generous contributions!)
After dinner our band of holiday revelers tried their luck at winning a number of raffle prizes. Turkeys, hams, club merchandise, wine, sportswear, pies, cookies as well as a bottle of Dewars brand scotch that was donated by Mel Peck, were all offered as prizes. Special thanks goes to member Gill Wilson for his donation of a highly collectable piece of pottery from his store in Chatham. The party wound down and was over by about 10pm. It appeared every one had a great time. After all the proceeds were counted it was determined that our club had made a profit of $200 dollars. This monetary sum will be forwarded as an additional donation to the Toys for Tots organization to help further their cause.
****The “Entertainment and Christmas Party Committee” would like to thank the following members for their help and support with this year’s party. Thank yous go out to Jack Martin, Dave Bois, Ray Ertel, Jim Gillespie, Rob & Denise Demello, Bruce Gustowski, Mel Peck, Adam Preston as well as Joanne and Bob Preston. We would also like to thank all members, their guests as well as the member families who purchased tickets and attended this most worthwhile event. We hope you had as much fun attending the party as all of us had putting it together. Happy New Year!
Scholarship Program: Mel Peck Please be advised that Cape Cod Fish & Game has established a scholarship fund. This program established with the assistance of the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School will help enable one graduating senior continue their education at a college or university with a $500 dollar scholarship. Two additional $100 dollar scholarships will be awarded to two(2) graduating seniors for the purchase of relevant tools needed in their particular field or technical vocation. All funds will be distributed at an awards night in May at the school.
Monthly Raffle: Congratulations to George Baggitt, Harry Whatling and Andrea Jabbert. At the December Business Meeting these three members walked away with some great prizes. Up for grabs that night were a pair of fleece vests, both embroidered with the club logo as well as a healthy sized bag of fresh clams. Here is the bottom line folks, if you don’t attend the meetings, you can’t very well win the loot. See you next month at the meeting February 12, 2008!
Robbie Briggs To Make Push For Change in Hunting Laws: Senior member Robbie Briggs has been busy. This policy endorsed by a majority rule at our club’s December Business Meeting is the brainstorm of Robbie himself. His goal is to get this change approved by our lawmakers. His proposal is as follows:
“We the members of the Cape Cod Fish & Game Association, request that the law regarding muzzleloaders for hunting during the muzzleloading deer season, be changed to allow any and all muzzleloaders. As long as the weapon loads from the muzzle it should be legal during that season.” Thank you for your consideration.
Go for it Robbie! You have our support!!
…………………….until next month, Bob P. |
