2008 Pig Roast is a great success!!

On Saturday September 20th, over 90 members and their guests enjoyed a pulled pork feast or mammoth proportions!  Other treats were BBQ chicken, pasta salad, potato salad, baked beans and applesauce.  If anyone went away hungry they just weren’t trying hard enough as the portions were huge.  Congrats to both Peter Donovan who won the canoe and congrats again to Bob Fratus Sr. who won the Thomson Encore!

Earlier that morning there was a trap shoot!  Congratulations go out to 1st place winner Jack Martin, Second went to Bruce Costa, Third went to Peter Morgavio, Fourth went Jim Gillespie and Fifth went to Ray Ertel.  The “Veteran’s Class” trophy and ever custodial bottle of prune juice was won by Dave Bouldry and Veterans Runner-Up Went to Bob Fratus Sr.  Adam Preston won the Junior Class and Sue G. won the trophy for high score in the Ladies  Division.  Again, congratulations to all!

Roger Lofberg Winter Trap League:

Bob Preston Chairman:

The Second Annual Roger Lofberg Winter Trap League will start on Saturday Morning November 1, 2008 and run for 16 weeks.  Like last year the entrance fee will be $20 per shooter. All shooters will need to shoot a minimum of two rounds of 25 clay pigeon targets each week.  The resulting 2 highest scores of 25 (that being the best run of 50 targets) will be recorded for score. At the end of the 16 weeks we will drop your lowest four weeks.  As a result the accumulation of each shooters highest twelve weekly scores will be their final score for the entire league.  All shooters must shoot at least 12 of the weeks to qualify for a trophy prize. The first couple of weeks will qualify each shooter into their proper classification of Sharpshooter Class, Expert Class or Master Class.  Like last year a potluck supper and awards night will be held at out clubhouse some time in the early spring. For details please call Bob Preston at 774.406.1573 or 508.821.2002.

Lucky Target Trap Turkey Shoot:

This years second annual Trap Turkey Shoot will be held on Sunday Morning, November 23, 2008.  The fun begins at 9am.  There will be a turkey prize awarded to a shooter for each five person round of trap.  Each shooter will have 25 clay targets.  Some clay targets will be green and some will be orange.  The combination of just how many green or orange targets each shooter receives is up to luck, fate and in some cases your trust in GOD THE ALMIGHTY!  The shooter who breaks the most green colored clay targets wins the turkey prize.  In the event of a tie score, the total broken birds, both green and orange will decide the winner. The cost to shoot on this day will be $5.00 dollars per round.  For details contact Dan Welch at 508.274.8262.

December Holiday Christmas Party:

This year’s club Christmas Party will be held on Saturday Evening, December  6, 2008.  Our holiday-decorated clubhouse will be open at 6pm for appetizers and a roast beef dinner will be served at 7pm. Tickets this year will be $15 per person and children aged 7 to 12 will be $5 dollars.  Any youngsters attending aged 6 and under will be admitted free of charge.  All attendants are urged to also bring an UNWRAPPED toy to donate to the Marine’s Toys For Tots organization. All contributions are distributed to a lesser privileged Cape Cod Youngster!  Last year the club hosted over fifty holiday attendees and donated a pile of toys to the Marines and this very worthwhile organization.  Members are urge to make contributions for the kids even if they cannot attend the Christmas Party.  No kid should ever have a lesser Christmas if we can do our own part to help!

Northeastern Grand American:

Congratulations to our roving trap team!  Special recognition goes out to Al Nardini, Jim Gillespie, Ray Ertel and Bob Preston who took home a few honors at this years New York Shoot. Some of the highlights include the following:  Jim Gillespie: Warm Up Day, Class A Singles Champion and Second Place Handicap Champion! Ray Ertel: Preliminary Day, Fifth Place Handicap Champion! Al Nardini, Sportsmen’s Singles Class C Champion!  Bob Preston Northeastern Grand Singles, Class B Runner Up Champion.  It should be noted here that in this match Bob shot is first “ATA Registered 100 Straight Round and finished with a 197X200 targets!”

Special recognition goes to a number of eateries in the central New York area that kept our boys going for those eight days.  Those restaurants are Eddies of Sylvan Beach, The Plainville Turkey Farm, Flos’ Diner and Debbie’s Diner.  Finally, big kudos go to the staff and management of Gary’s Restaurant of Verona Beach NY.  Diane. Renee, Frankie and LeeDella kept all of us in “good eats” during our stay as they served up the finest in fried chicken, fried haddock and steak dinners in the area.  Obviously, all of our diets went straight out the window that week!

Hanson Claybusters VS.  Fame’s Favored Few AKA The Cod Squad!

Saturday October 4th was the date of the fourth in a series of shooting events between  these two organizations.  All of us at Cape Cod Fish & Game would like to thank the Hanson Team for attending.  Special recognition goes out to Hanson Team members Dean Matta, Dana Leonard, Dave Bouldry, Peter Larson and Team Captain Rich Botto who all took trophies for the day!  Further recognition goes out to Jameson Dwyer, Jim Dwyer, Bob Leonard, John MacLellan and Adam Preston who also shot very respectably and certainly kept all of us here at the Harwich range on our toes.  In the end however Cape Cod Fish & Game won the match.  Pictured inset is Hanson Vice President David Bouldry shaking hands with Cape Cod Fish & Game President Ken Joudrey during the presentation of the champion club trophy.  Also pictured inset are club trophy winners for Cape Cod Fish & Game were Randy Foy, Jim Gillespie, Paul Donovan, Dan Welch and Peter Morgavio. Due to the camaraderie between these two organizations a fifth match is being tentatively scheduled for the spring of 2009.

Mel Peck Bags Black Bear!

Pictured inset please notice BOD member Mel Peck bagging a 200 pound black bruin!  Now Mel claims he shot it but from the picture it looks truly like he done wrestled the life out of that bear!!  Truly doesn’t that pose look like the old “Half Nelson” from the days of Haystack Calhoun!!  Anyway the bear dressed out at about 177 pounds.  Looks like Mel is in for some good eats.  Mel took this game while staying as a guest of fellow club member, lodge host and bear guide extraordinaire George Arsenault!!

Until next month…Bob P.
