EXTRA!! EXTRA!! READ ALL ABOUT IT!!

MEMBERS AND THEIR GUESTS GET “PORKED” AT THE ANNUAL CLUB PIG ROAST AND BARBEQUE!!

THE ABSOLUTE BEST PICNIC EVER!!!  To say the least our club pig roast and annual barbecue was a great success. Saturday, September 22, 2007 was the date of this year’s annual banquet.  The weather was great! Cool, dry and what started off as an overcast day gave way to sunshine and blue skies.  Our members and their guests feasted on pulled pork, roast beef, chicken, burgers, hotdogs, and about eight different side dishes.  There was a 50/50 raffle for anyone wishing to buy a chance and that pot-of-gold was won by member Denise Mello.  As for other contests, Nancy Snow and Michelle Kirowac, both representing the GOAL or Gun Owners’ Action League organization, sold a ton of raffle tickets enabling a number of lucky attendees to win a choice of a variety of prizes donated by their organization.  There were a number of kids attending that Saturday and they borrowed the club fishing poles and went down to our pond to give the fish some exercise. Twelve year old Jeff Caron, one of our guest anglers, found that using roasted pork skin truly makes a great fish bait.  Many kids caught and released many large mouth bass weighing two pounds or better.

Bob Preston Jim Gillespie and Kitchen Chairmen Bruce Gustowski serve  a variety of goodies from the BBQ grille to a whole bunch of hungry "Pig Roast" attendees.

The picnic grove was the place to be on September's Annual Pig Roast!

Jeff Caron of Bridgewater and Adam Preston of West Yarmouth had a grand ole time catching fish on the day of our club annual pig roast!  Infact, these two kids had so much fun fishing they almost forgot to eat!!

A word of appreciation is in order for Jeff Brown, Jack Martin, Bruce Gustowski, Jim Gillespie and  Bob Preston who helped serve the event.  Thank yous go out to all Board of Director members who sold the tickets as well as to all of you who purchased them.  Another thank you goes out to barbecue chef extraordinaire Dave Bishop of Dave’s BBQ and Catering of Norton Massachusetts who truly put on a first class feed for all the hungry masses.  If you didn’t eat well or have fun on this day, then you need IMMEDIATE PHYSCOLOIGICAL ATTENTION.  A truly great time was had by young and old alike!!

At this point it must be mentioned that Bob only took Fourth Place after a sudden death shoot off from HELL with fellow club member Peter Morgavio.  Pete bested Bob by one bird after 48 rounds. Also winning trophies on this day, from the Hanson Rod & Gun Club, Rich Botto in Fifth Place, Dave Bouldry who won Veteran’s Class Champion and Adam Preston who won Junior Class Champion.

Hanson and Cape Cod  To Have Rematch:

In truly a spirit of good sportsmanship, two classic teams of titans will clash at the sixteen-yard trap line! On Sunday, October 14th, 2007 Cape Cod Fish & Game will host a rematch competition against the Hanson Rod & Gun Club at our own Harwich clubhouse and trap range facility.  The “World Famous Hanson Claybusters” wish to see if they can better their score against Cape Cod’s own trap team of “Fame’s Favored Few.” You may remember readers that last spring Team Hanson lost to Cape Cod by only two birds!  Good luck to all participants.

22nd Northeastern Grand:

Five of our “Trap Away Team” members traveled to Cicero New York earlier this fall to compete in the ATA’s  22nd Northeastern Grand American Trap Championship.  Those five were Jim Gillespie, Bob Borges, Bob Preston,Bob Fratus and Ray Ertel.  The Northeastern Grand comprises of a number of Trap Shooting Events over a course of six days.  Each of our shooters shot off no less than 1200 rounds of ammo during their extended time away. They did come away with some victories.  In the Sportsmen’s Singles Championship Ray Ertel won “B Class Runner Up Champion” with a score of 99X100 targets.  Bob Fratus won “D Class Runner Up Champion” with a score of 94X100 targets.  In the Sportsmen’s Handicap Championship Ray Ertel won Second Place with a score of 97X100 targets. Finally, in the Northeastern Grand Singles Championship  Bob Preston won “B Class Runner Up Champion” with a score of 194X200 targets.  Congratulations to all of our club champions!!

Al Savage Chairman

Archery has announced they will be having a series of 3D shoots this winter.  All interested archers are urged to watch this space for further details.  All shoots will be scheduled for Sunday mornings.  Per usual the club kitchen will be staffed for breakfast. Anyone interested in learning about archery is encouraged to attend Wednesday Night Archery on the club’s indoor range at 7pm.  All interested persons should see Al Savage for details.

Christmas Party and Holiday Toys for Tots Benefit:

Please mark your calendar for Saturday, December 15th, 2007.  This is the REVISED date of our now annual Holiday Christmas Party.  This party is held within our decorated clubhouse and will feature a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, plus dessert and coffee. There will be a number of raffles that evening as well as a door prize.  Each year we have a few surprises.  Members are encouraged to bring their wives and families! As always, this is a very nice evening for everyone in the middle of the holiday season for not a lot of money. Unfortunately there are only sixty tickets available due to space considerations and they always sell out. Cost of the tickets are $10 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under.  In addition we ask (possibly beg if necessary) all attendees to donate an unwrapped, age specific toy to the toy box in the clubhouse.  The Marines will pick up these contributions and we have been assured that all of these toys will go to underprivileged children across the Cape. Your help is needed as well as appreciated. Over the last three years Cape Cod Fish & Game has given very generously to this cause.  Please contact Bob Preston for tickets at any Business Meeting or on the Trap Range any Sunday Morning.  Call (774) 406 – 1573 for more details.

Fourth Annual Slug Shoot:

Come on give it a try!!  I double dog dare you!!!  With the arrival of fall we can expect the hunting season to be right around the corner.  With that in mind, all members should plan to participate in the Fourth Annual Trophy Shotgun Slug Shoot to help them get ready for harvesting that trophy buck! This now annual event is scheduled for 1PM,  Sunday, November 4, 2007. (Rain date to be Sunday, November 11, 2007.) Last year we had about 14 shooters show up to compete in this program. Trophy plaques will be distributed for the scoped or aim point category champions as well as the iron sight category champions. Shooters must make three shots at a 25-yard target as well as make three shots at a 50-yard target. The resulting scores will be tracked against the other shooter’s scores. The cost to shoot is $5.00 dollars.  Re-ups are $4.00 dollars. All shooters must bring their own ammo.  Any shooter and any gauge shotgun is welcome. Over the years I have heard about many members being comparable to Buffalo Bill Cody. The stories do abound around the old clubhouse. It is time to determine who REALLY gets to keep the bragging rights for the title of “Top Gun” for the next year!!  For further details  please contact Bob Preston at (774) 406- 1573.
