May Meetings and Election of Club Officers:

Please be advised that the May Business Meeting and Annual Election of Club Officers will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. The menu for the evening is prime rib of beef and will be served at 7pm. Due to the increased cost of meat as well as other food items, members can expect an increase in the dinner prices.  The May dinner will be a fee of $8.00 dollars. Truly not really a bad price when you consider the menu is to be prime rib of beef.  All other meeting night dinners will be a cost of $7.00 dollars. As always, the meeting will begin at approximately 8pm. Members are encouraged to arrive early for a good seat.  Please be advised that this month’s Board of Director’s (BOD) Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 7pm.

A Letter From Ken Joudrey our Club (2nd) Vice President:

To All Members of CCF&G:

Looking back, this past year has been quite successful. We can be and should be pleased with the improvements that have been made in our facilities.  The Board of Directors believes that we, as an association, need to be putting monies back into our property to enhance and expand the facilities for the members.

The members should note that the outdoor ranges, rifle and pistol, have been upgraded with concrete bullet tarps and hardened steel deflector plates. The range committee has done a good job keeping the outdoor ranges in good shape. The just completed shot curtain on trap field #2, allows this field to be reopened. Field #2 will also be outfitted with a voice activated machine to allow more people to enjoy trap shooting in a timely fashion. Opening of the second field will also allow the Cape Cod Fish & Game Association to again engage in interclub shoots and possibly an ATA sanctioned shoot later in the summer or fall. The trap committee is very excited about the enhanced facilities, and the potential for hosting events. More and more people are coming out to enjoy the sport of trap.

For the archers, the outdoor 3D shoots have become a more popular event, especially the breakfast that goes along with the shoots. The firearms training program is also highly successful and has brought many new members into the club. Our licensed instructors donate countless hours to this program.

Plans are also in the works to construct an indoor pistol range as an addition to the existing club house structure. The building committee has worked hard to get us to the point where we are now ready and can go before the town review process. We hope we will be successful in securing building permits for this project by the end of the summer.

These successes of the past 2 – 3 years are made possible due to the hard work of the committees, the hardworking members, the Board, and in large part to the leadership of President George Baggitt. George will be stepping down from the president's position this coming year but we all know he is not going away. When you see him, thank him for all of his efforts on behalf of our club. See you at the annual meeting on May 13th.

Respectfully, Ken Joudrey

Kitchen Department:

Bruce Gustowski, Chairman

We are In search of cooks!!  Anyone interested in helping out with a club dinner is encouraged to step forward.  Cooks and helpers are needed for the dinner meetings.  If you can help out please see Bruce at any club meeting.  Special thanks go out to Ray Ertel, Jim Gillespie, Don Funkhauser, Bruce Gustowski, George Baggitt and Bob Preston who all pulled together and served a truly fantastic corned beef and cabbage dinner at the March Dinner Meeting. Further recognition goes to our pot and pans washer Dan Welch. It is not uncommon to dirty ever pan in the house cooking this particular meal.  Dan brought those pesky pots into line in real short order!!  To all of you who helped, thank you again for your efforts!!

Trap and Fame’s Favored Few

Co – Chairmen: Peter Morgavio & Dan Welch

The Roger Lofberg Memorial Winter Trap League is now a matter of club history. Pictured inset is Jim Gillespie with the "Top Gun" trophy.  Additionally, also pictured inset is Roger Lofberg's wife Florence and her daughter who were presented Roger Lofberg's "Honorary Distinguished Expert" Certificate. This award was presented to Mrs. Lofberg to commemorate Roger's excellence in trap shooting. Please be advised that this certificate will be awarded to all club shooters who complete the NRA Shotgun Qualification Program.  March 16, 2008 was the date of our hopefully now annual Trap Ham Shoot. Despite both windy and cold conditions the Trap Committee was able to run 10 squads that day.  As a result, ten shooters went home with some beautiful "Ham" prizes. Special congrats go to Ken Joudrey who won two hams that morning.  Special thanks also go out to all the club shooters (as well as our brothers from the Midway club) who helped make this event possible.  All members are reminded that Trap is shooting Saturday Mornings at 10 AM, Sunday Mornings at 9am and Friday afternoons at 12 noon. The cost to shoot is a mere $3.00 dollars per round of 25 clay targets.  Non members will pay just a dollar more!  Our trap range is open to all whether you are a novice, a rookie, an expert or an ATA superstar. Everyone is welcome so come on down and join us for some shooting fun! All Trap Shooting enthusiasts are encouraged to sign up for the NRA Qualification Program. Trap Shooters will now earn badges for achieving various levels of proficiency.  Currently we now have four shooters collecting their badges for their respective levels of shotgun proficiency. The cost is a one-time charge of $5 dollars.  In addition to the NRA patch, shooters will earn various “chevron” type badges for levels of Pro-Marksmen, Marksmen, Sharpshooter, Expert and Distinguished Expert.  At the conclusion of the program each shooter will receive a framed certificate of accomplishment and completion.

The Green Monster!!!

So you think Fenway Park is the only site in New England that has a Green Monster? Well look no further than Cape Cod Fish & Game's Trap Range #2!!  Our new shot screen (wall) may seem a bit intimidating to some, however it is quite functional!  This range offers it's own challenges and is not for the skittish.  For those of you who are up to the challenge, the monster awaits you.  For those of you who scare easy we still have the "kitty" range!
