June 2008 Newsletter

June Meetings:

Please be advised that the June Business Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. The menu for the evening is undetermined at this time. Dinner, whatever it may be, will be served at 7pm. Please be advised that due to the increased food costs all dinners will now be at a price of $7.00 dollars. As always, the meeting will begin at approximately 8pm. Members are encouraged to arrive early for a good seat.  Please be advised that this month’s Board of Director’s (BOD) Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 7pm.

Dues and Key Exchange:

With the coming of spring also comes that time of the year to pay our club dues  Member dues for the 2008 to 2009 member year is $100 dollars. If you are unable to make one of last month’s key exchange dates, arrangements can be made with the Membership Committee to make the exchange in June. New members are to be  reminded that in order for them to receive their key, they must have completed 4 hours of club service.  This service is to be documented on the back of their 2007 membership cards.

Kitchen Department:

Bruce Gustowski, Chairman

We are In search of cooks!!  Anyone interested in helping out with a club dinner is encouraged to step forward.  Cooks and helpers are needed for the dinner meetings.  If you can help out please see Bruce at any club meeting.  Special thanks go out to Heidi Dykeman and Jill Savage who did a great job with the April Dinner. To all of you who helped, thank you again for your efforts!!  Volunteer Cooks are needed in July! We are looking for six volunteer cooks to cover the dinner meeting in July.  Everyone knows how to do grilled chicken with a little B.B.Q sauce.  Add a salad, some corn or green beans bread and butter and the meal is done. Simple as that. We even supply the gas grill. What more can you ask for.

Happy New Year!!

As you read this letter it is the end of May and the annual meeting and the election of officers and board members is complete. We embark on another new year for the Association. I think it is fair to say that all Officers and Board members have accepted  their respective positions knowing that they will be donating a lot of their time for the benefit of the members and the association. It is my hope that the coming year will be as rewarding and productive as the past year has been. Some things that are happening are:

Member Services Page Coming To “The Web”

Have you looked at the web site lately? Check it out, www.capecodfishandgame.org for events of the club and to see what we are doing.. Coming soon will be a “Member Services Directory” page where you can promote your business, your trade, or your service to our members and others that may visit our web site. A little advertising never hurts. So, send us your business card, logo or basic information and we will scan it in and put it up on our web site, on  the “Member Services Directory” page for all to see. It may help generate some business for you.

Send you business cards to:  Cape Cod Fish & Game,  P. O. Box 119, Harwichport, MA 02646. By email to Ken Joudrey @ ken.jdi @ comcast.net.

Pistol Range Moving Forward:

The indoor pistol range just moved one step closer to reality. The Harwich Zoning Board of Appeals has granted CCF&G a variance that will allow the construction of an addition to the clubhouse that will house the new range. We are proposing a construct a six position shooting facility with a maximum fifty foot target distance. With a little bit of luck we may have an operating indoor facility in a little over a year. Thank you to Ralph Sylvestor and Alan Savage for their hard work in moving this project forward.

Paint Brush Operators Needed:

There is always some project that needs to be done at the clubhouse or the on the grounds. Do you need to get some hours in? Contact Peter Morgavio or Dan Welch of the trap committee. The gun racks at the trap fields are in need of scraping and painting. We even supply the paint and brushes.

Fishing Derby:

The fishing derby is in the planning stages. At this writing it is scheduled for Saturday, August 16th. The fishing committee is asking for donations of new fishing equipment that would be appropriate to give to the young anglers as prizes the day of the event. If you are so inclined to provide fishing equipment or a donation for the event contact the fishing committee or one of the officers or directors listed above.

Cape Cod Technical High School:

Do you know that your Association also believe is giving back to the community. A deserving graduate from Cape Cod Community College will receive a scholarship from CCF&G for continuing education and another will receive  a scholarship for “Tools of the Trade” This was approved by your Board a few months ago. We expect  to continue this in years to come.

E-Mail the President or Board of Director Members:

Do you want to send an e-mail to the President or the Board of Directors? Please send it to: Ken.JDI@comcast.net. Suggestions are welcomed! Constructive criticism accepted! Work and volunteerism for the benefit of CCF&G is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.

Trap and Fame’s Favored Few

Co – Chairmen: Peter Morgavio & Dan Welch

On April 26 the World Famous Hanson Claybusters faced off against our own Trap Team AKA “Fame’s Favored Few.”  Unfortunately for our team, the boys from Hanson have been doing some practicing and as a result we lost to them by a score of 457 to their 468.  Another rematch is in the works and will take place sometime this fall.  Hanson Team leader Rich Botto stated that another match has to be in the making due to the camaraderie between the two organizations has grown over the years. The next match will be on the Cape Cod Fish & Game Trap Field.  Pictured inset are our top four trophy winners at the Hanson Match!

Trophy Winners Jim Gillespie, Ray Ertel, Randy Foy & Don Watkins.  Presented to our club Trap Shooters by Hanson Trap Co- Chairman Rich Botto & John Coyman

All members are reminded that Trap is shooting Saturday Mornings at 10 AM, Sunday Mornings at 9am and Friday afternoons at 12 noon. The cost to shoot is a mere $3.00 dollars per round of 25 clay targets.  Non members will pay just a dollar more!  Our trap range is open to all whether you are a novice, a rookie, an expert or an ATA superstar. Everyone is welcome so come on down and join us for some shooting fun! All Trap Shooting enthusiasts are encouraged to sign up for the NRA Qualification Program. Trap Shooters will now earn badges for achieving various levels of proficiency.  Currently we now have four shooters collecting their badges for their respective levels of shotgun proficiency. The cost is a one-time charge of $5 dollars.  In addition to the NRA patch, shooters will earn various “chevron” type badges for levels of Pro-Marksmen, Marksmen, Sharpshooter, Expert and Distinguished Expert.  At the conclusion of the program each shooter will receive a framed certificate of accomplishment and completion.

Annual Youth Fishing Derby Reminder:

The fun begins at 7am for kids of all ages. There will be a number of different contests and prizes for everyone!  Member help is needed for this event!  All members are asked to contact either Dick or Kent at any Business Meeting.

For The Good of The Order, April 12 Clean Up Day:

It was noted that the following tasks were completed at the April Club Clean up Day.  The back room of clubhouse was cleaned, the clay targets were moved to the new trailers, the club road was graded, the emergency lights were installed, the pallet jack was purchased and assembled, all new boards installed on range bullet traps, the lime trench was dug in front of bullet traps, the doors were built for range shooting shed, trap house number #2 painted as well as many other items of general clean  up.  All together it was a very productive day!  It should be noted that 32 members out of our total base of 244 members participated and helped out on this day.  To all of you who helped on this day, your club is in your debt.  Those of you who did not, well, we will look for your effort next time!!

Annual September Pig Roast:

Well last year’s club pig roast was a great success.  This years should be all of that and more!! The Annual Club Pig Roast is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday September 20, 2008.  Along with the roast pig attendees can expect burgers, dogs and BBQ chicken.  There will be a Trophy Trap Shoot in the morning of September 20th.  A number of raffles can be expected that afternoon!  Ticket prices for adults are $20.00 dollars and for kids 12 and under $10.00 dollars.  All tickets are available from any club officer or director.  For details please call Bob Preston at 774.406.1573!!

Until next month…Bob P.
