Cape Cod Fish & Game AssociationJuly 2008 Newsletter July Meetings: Please be advised that the July Business Meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008. The menu for the evening is undetermined at this time. Dinner, whatever it may be, will be served at 7pm. As always, the meeting will begin at approximately 8pm. Members are encouraged to arrive early for a good seat. Please be advised that this month’s Board of Director’s (BOD) Meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 7pm.
Annual September Pig Roast: Well last year’s club pig roast was a great success. This year's should be all of that and more!! The Annual Club Pig Roast is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, September 20, 2008. Along with the roast pig, attendees can expect burgers, dogs and BBQ chicken and a number of side dishes such as potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans etc. So bring your appetite folks! There is no limit on the number of trips you can make to the buffet table!! Also, a number of raffles can be expected that afternoon! Ticket prices for adults are $20.00 dollars and for kids 12 and under $10.00 dollars. All tickets are available from any club officer or director. Pig Roast and Our Second Annual Trap Challenge Trophy Shoot: The Second Annual Trap Challenge Trophy Shoot will be held on Saturday morning, September 20, 2008 at 9am. This is also the date of our annual Pig Roast. The cost to shoot this 100-clay target event is $20 dollars for adults and $15 dollars for juniors 17 and under. 50 targets to be shot on range one and 50 targets to be shot on range two in front of our new shot screen AKA The Green Monster! Trophies will be awarded for Top Gun, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place as well as High Junior Shooter and High Veteran Shooter. All will be distributed at the close of the contest.
****All shooters are also urged to join us for our annual Pig Roast feast that begins at 2pm. Tickets for the Pig Roast are $20 for adults and $10 dollars for kids. You just can't beat a combination like this; guns, clays and pork! Interested shooters should contact Bob Preston at 774.406.1573 or Dan Welch at 508.274.8262.****
Pig Roast Lucky Gun Raffle: The upcoming "Lucky Gun Raffle" will have a total of 200 tickets available for sale and they will go fast! The prize to be won is a Thompson Center Encore Pro-hunter. The winner will have a choice of caliber as well as the barrel. Each ticket will sell for a donation price of $10 dollars. The winning ticket to be drawn at the Pig Roast on September 20, 2008. The lucky winner of the gun will be able to pick up their prize at the Goose Hummock Shop. Anyone wishing to purchase tickets should see George Baggitt.
Pig Roast Lucky Canoe Raffle: This year's "Lucky Canoe" Raffle prize is to be on an Old Town, 14-foot long canoe. 300 total tickets are to be sold. The price per ticket is $5.00 each. A booklet of five tickets to cost a reduced price of $20.00 dollars. The lucky winning ticket will be drawn at the September 20 Pig Roast.
Changes to the Board: Secretary Bob Preston Casts One Vote! "As elected secretary of the great and famous Cape Cod Fish & Game Association, I Robert F. Preston, do hereby cast one vote to elect to their respective offices, the candidates thereby listed on the slate presented by Mr. Bruce Gustowski, our nominations committee chairman."
And with that one vote began our new membership year for 2008 - 2009. Congratulations to new Club President Ken Joudrey, Second Vice President George Baggitt, Treasurer Rob DeMello and Board of Director Member Jack Martin.
Time to PANIC! Dues are now officially late!! Rick Kuzman To all members who haven’t paid your dues, you are now officially late. The locks have been changed on both the clubhouse as well as the gate. Please make it a point to come down to the clubhouse at any meeting and renew your membership ASAP so that you can be issued your 2008 - 2009 key and badge. Member dues for the 2008 - 2009 member year is $100 dollars. New members are to be reminded that in order for them to receive their key, they must have completed 4 hours of club service. This service is to be documented on the back of their 2007 membership cards.
Regarding New Membership: A club member must sponsor new applicants. All applicants and sponsors must be interviewed for membership. After submitting an application, applicants will be contacted to schedule the interview. Anyone with a membership question is urged to contact Rick Kuzman at 508.896.9563. All committee chairmen and directors are hereby reminded that they need to provide Rick Kuzman with a list of projects and contact information that can be provided to new membership applicants. This way, new members can pick a project, contact the responsible party, set up a date and get guidance on the when and the where to complete the project. Projects can be one-time events such as painting the new picnic tables or reoccurring ones, such as raking the ranges for brass once a month.
Kitchen Department: Bruce Gustowski, ChairmanSpecial thanks go out to Heidi Dykeman, Bill Long and Bob Briggs who did a great job with the May Dinner. Prime rib has certainly become a menu tradition for the May Election Meeting. With the addition of the annual key exchange that occurred that evening we sure had a huge number of members staying for dinner. Close to eighty members ate very well that night. A big thank you also goes out to Andrea Jalbert for her special lemon dessert! To all of you who helped, thank you again for your efforts!! Please be advised that we are in search of cooks!! Anyone interested in helping out with a club dinner is encouraged to step forward. Cooks and helpers are needed for the dinner meetings. If you can help out please see Bruce at any club meeting

Coming soon will be a “Member Services Directory” page where you can promote your business, your trade, or your service to our members and others that may visit our web site. A little advertising never hurts. So, send us your business card, logo or basic information. We will scan it, and then place it on our web site's own “Member Services Directory” page for all to see. Fishing Derby: Kent Vieneau, Dick Swanson and the rest of the pond crew wish to remind everyone that the Annual Youth Fishing Derby is scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2008. The fun begins at 7am for kids of all ages. There will be a number of different contests and prizes for everyone! Member help is needed for this event! The fishing committee is asking for donations of new fishing equipment that would be age appropriate to give to the young anglers as prizes the day of the event. If you are so inclined to provide fishing equipment or a donation for the event contact either Dick or Kent at any Business Meeting.
Scholarship at Cape Cod Technical High School: Please be advised that Eric Fenner of West Dennis, a senior at the Cape Cod Technical High School, was awarded the club's $500 dollar scholarship. These monies that are to be made available to Eric will help him further his education in the field of Culinary Arts. In September, Eric will be attending the Connecticut Culinary Institute. Mark LaCroix of Yarmouthport, also a senior at the same high school, was selected to receive the $200 dollar toolship award. Mark will be continuing his career locally in the field of Marine Service Technology as an employee of the Allen Harbor Marine Service.
Trap and Fame’s Favored FewCo – Chairmen: Peter Morgavio & Dan Welch Congratulations go out to two of our own members of Fame's Favored Few who took trophy prizes at the Rhode Island Shoot. Despite weather forecasts of downright nasty conditions, these two members stayed the course and walked away with some wins. Congratulations go out to our own Peter Morgavio who won "D" Class in the "Non Resident" Singles Championship. We also have to congratulate our own "famed member by proxy", Bob Borges, who won the "D" Class "Resident" Title in the Singles Championship. In the Massachusetts State Shoot, Bob also won "D" Class in the Singles Preliminary Contest as well as first place in the Preliminary Veterans Handicap Category. Congratulations also go out to 13 year old Adam Preston who during his first state shoot, won the Massachusetts Singles Championship in the Sub Junior Open Class category! Adam broke a pair of twin 94s on Saturday, June 7, 2008 for a total score of 188! Pictured inset is Adam with his trophy! Once again, congratulations to Peter, Bob and Adam!
Saturday, June 7, 2008 was the day of the Massachusetts State Trap Shooting Championship. This annual event was held at the Minuteman Sportsmen's Club in Burlington Massachusetts. Despite 95 degree temperatures, shooters from all over the northeast competed for a variety of state titles and trophies prizes. Thirteen year old Adam Preston, a junior member from the Hanson Rod & Gun Club as well as a regular on the Cape Cod Fish & Game Association trap range broke two back to back scores of 94 out of 100 targets. His final score was 188 out of 200 clay targets. Adam, who started shooting trap two years ago, is currently finishing up his requirements for the NRA Shotgun Qualification Program rating of Distinguished Expert. As a result of his score of 188, Adam won the title of Massachusetts State Trap Shooting Champion in the sub junior open classification. All members are reminded that Trap is shooting: Thursday afternoons at 12 noon, Friday afternoons at 12 noon, Saturday Mornings at 10 AM and Sunday Mornings at 9am. The cost to shoot is a mere $3.00 dollars per round of 25 clay targets. Non members will pay just a dollar more! Our trap range is open to all shooters whether you are a novice, a rookie, an expert or an ATA superstar. Everyone is welcome so come on down and join us for some "pigeon popping" fun!
