World Famous Hanson Claybusters VS. Fame’s Favored Few: Well a classic rematch of two teams of titans took place on Sunday, October 14th, 2007. Members from both the Hanson Rod & Gun Club as well as Cape Cod Fish & Game squared off on our club trap range for a rematch of a tournament that began last spring. The top five shooters for the Claybusters were Dean Matta who took 1st place, Rich Botto took 2nd place, John Maclellan took 3rd place, Paul Williams (Hanson Club President) took 4th place and Bob Leonard took 5th place. The top five shooters for Cape Cod were Jim Gillespie who took 1st place, Jack Martin took 2nd place, Al Nardini took 3rd place, Dan Welch took 4th place and Bob Preston took fifth place. Cape Cod Fish & Game, with a combined score of 469 out of 500 to Hanson’s 432 out of 500, our club was able to capture and take home the Champion Club Trophy. All shooters had a great time on this day and will one day meet again at the 16 yard line. A third shoot to take place at the Hanson Rod & Gun Club is tentatively planed for this spring. Congratulations to all trophy winners. A special thank you goes out to Bruce Gustowski and Ken Judrey who helped out as our kitchen help on this day. Thanks to them our own club shooters as well as our Hanson Rod & Gun Club guests were all well fed that day.

Trap Committee To Host Roger Lofberg Winter Trap League: Sunday, November 11, was the starting day of the Roger Lofberg Winter trap League. This first, hopefully annual shoot, is being held in Roger’s memory. All of you will remember Roger, who was an active trap shooter on the range up until his death in the early spring of this year. This match will last 16 weeks and is expected to be completed in early March. The entry fee is $20.00 dollars. All participants who shoot at least 12 of the 16 weeks will win a trophy prize. All interested shooters should note that in this contest everyone is grouped to be competing against shooters of their own level of ability. All shooters are also able to compete for the grand prize and title of “Top Gun and Club Champion.” An awards night and banquet will be held for all league participants at the conclusion of this contest. All members are reminded that Trap is shooting Sunday Mornings at 9am and Friday afternoons from 12pm until 2pm. The cost to shoot is a mere $3.00 dollars per round of 25 clay targets. Non members will pay just a dollar more! Our trap range is open to all whether you are a novice, a rookie, an expert or an ATA superstar. Everyone is welcome so come on down and join us for some shooting fun!

Support Toys For Tots Today!! Both yourself and a local Cape Cod youngster will be glad you made the extra effort!!
Christmas Party and Holiday Toys for Tots Benefit: Please mark your calendar for Saturday, December 15th, 2007. This is the REVISED date of our now annual Holiday Christmas Party. This party is held within our decorated clubhouse and will feature a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, plus dessert and coffee. There will be a number of raffles that evening as well as a door prize. Each year we have a few surprises. Members are encouraged to bring their wives and families! As always, this is a very nice evening for everyone in the middle of the holiday season for not a lot of money. Unfortunately there are only sixty tickets available due to space considerations and they always sell out. Cost of the tickets are $10 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under. In addition we ask (possibly beg if necessary) all attendees to donate an unwrapped, age specific toy to the toy box in the clubhouse. The Marines will pick up these contributions and we have been assured that all of these toys will go to underprivileged children across the Cape. Your help is needed as well as appreciated. Over the last three years Cape Cod Fish & Game has given very generously to this cause. Please contact Bob Preston for tickets at any Business Meeting or on the Trap Range any Sunday Morning. Call (774) 406 – 1573 for more details.
November Slug Shoot: Sunday afternoon November 4th, 2007 at the club outdoor range was the place and time for our clubs now Fourth Annual Shotgun Slug Shoot! Despite the 89 MPH wind gusts and 4 inches rain dropped by Tropical Storm/Hurricane Noel that battered Cape Cod a day earlier, a determined group of sixteen participants lined up to try their hand at winning a few trophies as well as bragging rights for the tittle of top gun. A beautiful November fall day was at hand which allowed our shooters, for a modest fee of $5 dollars to take 3 shots at a 25 yard target, and three shots at a 50 yard target. This total became their overall score. To retry and attempt to better one’s score was an additional $3 dollars for another round of two targets. Of the sixteen original shooters, nine tried their hand at additional attempts to win the prizes for the day.
The results are as follows: Jack Martin won first place in the Iron Sights Group. Ryan Wade of Eastham, a member of the Nauset Club won second place. In the Scoped or Aim Point, club member Chet Wright took first place. Greg Wade of Eastham, also a member of the Nauset Club and Ryan’s Dad, won second place. Dan Welch again won the infamous Turkey Bird Award for achieving a low score. Dan had competition this year as this title had a few contenders. However both Peter Donovan and Adam Preston escaped this title by increasing their benchmark in their subsequent retries. Despite having an extremely successful morning on the club trap range, Dan unfortunately shot worse during the afternoon. Congratulations to all of our trophy winners and shooters. Good luck to all of you in the upcoming Massachusetts shotgun dear season!
